This page from a 1972 Christmas catalog shows the four books by Pierre Berton that ruled the Toronto Star’s bestseller list at the same time for two and a half months (see the Toronto Star clipping, 7 Oct 1972, that accompanies this case study). The Great Railway Illustrated was essentially a deluxe edition of The National Dream and The Last Spike, but there was also demand for a limited boxed set of leather-bound editions of both books. The same was true for Berton's updated version of his 1958 book, Klondike.
